Period 4 - Semester Final

Part 1

1. My favorite photo from this slideshow, would be photo 7. I really enjoy the bright colors in the picture, they really pop from the black background and gives this photo a fun feeling. I also like the large balloon that's out of focus in the front because it gives the picture some depth and leads our eyes to the main focus of the picture, the acrobat. I enjoy this picture because of the simplicity of it, it is just some brightly colored balloons with a person juggling.

2. The best photo from this slideshow, in my opinion, would be last picture, photo 9. The composition of the photo is well done, with the silhouette of the deer and bird slightly off center and the silhouette of the trees framing the picture. This picture also provides a sense of the depth, the mist brings out the trees into the foreground, the deer and bird becomes the main focus, and the mist blurs out everything behind the silhouettes. The colors of this pictures are muted; this picture is essentially just black and a muted grayish purple, which gives the picture a mysterious and calming presentation.

3. My best work this semester would be the first edited photo (the black and white one of Haroon laughing) in this photo set where we imitated Yousuf Karsh's style. I would consider this photo to be one of my best works because it emulates one of my rules of composition, which is simplify, this picture is very simple; it's a portrait shot of someone with a white background, so there are no distractions that make you look away from the main focus. This picture also has good contrast with the lighting, which brings Haroon out from the background, making him stand out more. This photo also captures the look of joy on Haroon's face during a conversation our group was having when we were taking our photos. We were able to connect with  him and captured a photo that displays that connection.

4. Our three rules of composition are simplicity, depth, and aspect ratio.

5. This photo provided below emulates two of our rules of composition, it utilizes depth and aspect ratio. This photo is a picture of M.C. taking a selfie on her iPhone.

6. Your first rule of composition that you have told us is "Get Closer."

7. Benefits of working in groups:
- you have a support system that encourages you to try hard
- your group members can help provide you with constructive criticism to help you improve
- your group members can help come up with new ideas for pictures
- working in groups teach you how to communicate better with other people
- groups that work together well can finish projects faster

8. Difficulties of working in groups:
- there are many opinions and may be difficult to agree on something
- it can be distracting when you are trying to focus on one thing
- if your group doesn't work together well, then it will be very difficult to get things done
- some people in your group may be hard to work with, so you may have to make some sacrifices
- having a group usually means that there is more work for you to do compared to if you just worked by yourself

9. My favorite work product produced by another person in this class would be Haroon's photo of M.C. (the fourth edited photo in the photo set) in the Masters of Photography assignment.

A Little History

10. The master photographer that we studied was Yousuf Karsh. He was a master of using studio lights and was a famed portrait photographer. Karsh was a big influence in the world of photography and has influenced many other photographers of various styles to become more independent and to further motivate other artists.

11. Dorothea Lange's most popular photo is known as the "Migrant Mother." She took this photo in either February or March 1936 in Nipomo, California when she was working for the Resettlement Administration at the time.

12. LIFE Magazine was founded by John Ames Mitchell and this photojournalism magazine began publishing in 1936.

13. Robert Capa was a founding member of Magnum Photos, which was founded in 1947.

14. Robert Capa's photo known as "Falling Soldier" was taen at Cerro Muraino on September 5, 1936.
